Steve Baker – Psychotherapist in London
My name is Steve Baker and I am a qualified psychotherapist in London, with over 20 years experience of working in the field of mental health. Initially working with addiction in the voluntary sector, I trained as a Psychodynamic Counsellor and moved to the National Health Service. After some years there I looked for further opportunities to train and work in a different and more effective way as I became more interested in analytical thinking and psycho-social models of working. I came to Arbours in North London to train as a Psychoanalytical Psychotherapist. This included a 'lived-in' experience of working in therapeutic communities, including the Arbours Crisis Centre whilst training and this rich clinical experience and training informs how I run my private practice today.
The human mind is complex and I have always been deeply interested in the way our life experiences shape and affect our thoughts and perceptions. Psychotherapy can be an exploration of our life choices. A chance to examine issues that continue to hamper our lives and relationships, even though perhaps thought to be resolved. By identifying and reconciling these underlying issues, we can then improve the likelihood of moving forward with our lives.
In today's technologically driven, ever-demanding, and increasingly uncertain world, it can seem difficult to step back and collect our thoughts, or sometimes to think at all. Psychotherapy offers a chance for you to pause, take time and evaluate the choices, experiences, and issues that are affecting your life.
When you visit my practice for a session, you are invited to turn towards your internal world and engage with yourself on a deeper level. It is a neutral, safe, comfortable and confidential space where you can ‘free associate’, without fear of retaliation or repercussion. You are able to explore and give voice to your deepest thoughts, fears, and desires. It is a place for you to explore the hidden corners of your mind in a safe and comfortable environment.
Research consistently shows that irrespective of the modality of psychotherapy, it is the relationship between client and therapist that is the most ‘curative’ element of the work. When we agree on a schedule, I will be here for you - whether we agree to meet for 6 months or 6 years. Book yourself a consultation today by completing and submitting the form below.
